Finally! The long anticipated Salon de los Jovenes- Venetian Tango edition was there, and I was so excited when we came up with the themes, just because it seemed like a perfect event to dress up for, and for some reason I was sure that many people joined me in my search for theatrical drama.
After experimenting for hours different hairstyles in combination with this black dusty boa, I finally went out,
in my dramatic dress, with my mask in my hand, to what I hoped to be a memorable Jovenes evening.
When I came in the salon, masked, I was so glad to see at least half of the visitors wearing masks, what a delight! After dancing the first tango, I quickly realised that the mask was making it impossible to connect to the face of my partner, without poking him in the eye, so first the mask, and then the feathers came off...what was I thinking??! Well, I guess the best tango outfit would be as less as possible when it comes to getting overheated on the dancefloor, but what fun would that be??
Since the assigned DJ cancelled 2 days prior to the Salon, we were forced to share the DJ tasking between several Jovenes, which resulted in a very strange variety of tango music during the night, for some reason the "feeling" wasn't in the air that night. In spite of Moneirs pretty, and spontaneous mini-concert. Also, there were far less visitors than at the previous salon, which was noticable on the dancefloor. Hey, at least I got to wear that dress again, and I finally fulfilled my Venetian Carnival Festivity dream, sort of...or should I go to Venice next year?
Was it the theme? Are Dutch people just not so much into dress-up parties? Please feel free to react to this question, so we can count this in when we brainstorm about the upcoming themes...is my poor tango heart just too dramatic for the average Amsterdam Tangueros? Tell me tell me tell me :-)
